Jewelry Repair in Dearborn | In-Store Service

When a ring, chain, bracelet, or pair of earrings needs attention, you want clear answers and careful work. N.J. Diamonds provides jewelry repair in Dearborn for everyday pieces, fine jewelry, and meaningful family heirlooms.

Our family-owned jewelry store has served the community from the same Dearborn location for 30 years. Repairs are evaluated in person, completed in-store, and handled by our experienced jeweler. Your jewelry does not get shipped to another city or state.

Bring your jewelry to our Dearborn store for an in-person evaluation. Many common repairs take one to three days, depending on the work required; we do not offer while-you-wait repairs.

Jewelry Repair Services

Bring your jewelry in for an inspection and an honest explanation of the work it may need. Common repairs include:

  • Ring sizing and fit adjustments
  • Prong repair, rebuilding, and tightening
  • Diamond and gemstone replacement or resetting
  • Chain, clasp, and bracelet repair
  • Earring post, back, and hinge repair
  • White-gold rhodium plating
  • Professional cleaning and polishing
  • Inspection and restoration of older or heirloom jewelry

Ring Repair and Ring Sizing

Rings experience daily wear, especially around the prongs, setting, shank, and sizing area. A loose stone, worn prong, thin band, or poor fit should be checked before the problem becomes more serious.

We repair and resize many rings made from gold, platinum, and silver. The best method depends on the metal, design, stone placement, and amount of size change required. We inspect the ring first and explain what is appropriate for that specific piece.

Chain, Bracelet, and Earring Repair

A broken chain or clasp can often be repaired, but the right approach depends on the link style, thickness, metal, and previous repairs. We also work on many bracelet clasps, hinges, safety catches, earring posts, backs, and other small components.

Bring the complete piece and any loose parts with you. If a component is missing, we can discuss suitable replacement options after inspecting the jewelry.

Diamond and Gemstone Setting Repair

If a diamond or gemstone feels loose—or if a prong catches on clothing—stop wearing the piece and have it inspected. Worn prongs can allow a stone to move or fall out.

Our GIA education in diamonds and gemstones helps us evaluate the stone, setting, and surrounding metal before recommending a repair. When a stone is missing, we can help locate an appropriate replacement and discuss the setting work needed to secure it.

Repairs Completed In-Store

Your jewelry stays at our Dearborn store while it is being repaired. The owner and jeweler personally handles the repair work, so you can speak with the people responsible for evaluating and caring for your piece.

  • Face-to-face evaluation before work begins
  • Clear explanation of the recommended repair
  • Upfront discussion of expected timing and cost
  • Cleaning and polishing included with jewelry repairs

Cleaning, Polishing, and Rhodium Plating

Professional cleaning removes buildup from areas that are difficult to reach at home, while polishing can reduce light surface wear and restore shine. White-gold jewelry may also benefit from rhodium plating when its bright white finish has worn away.

Cleaning and polishing are included with our repair work. We inspect stones and settings as part of the process and will let you know if we notice wear that should be addressed.

Heirloom and Sentimental Jewelry

Older jewelry deserves a thoughtful approach. We consider the piece’s construction, condition, materials, and sentimental value before recommending repair or restoration. When a piece cannot be repaired safely—or when redesign would better suit your goals—we explain the options honestly.

If you are considering a larger transformation, learn about our custom jewelry design and heirloom redesign services. For documentation after significant work, we can also discuss jewelry appraisal services.

How the Repair Process Works

  1. Bring in your jewelry: No appointment is required for an initial inspection.
  2. We examine the piece: We identify visible damage, wear, loose stones, and previous repair work.
  3. Review the recommendation: We explain the repair, expected timing, and cost before proceeding.
  4. Repair and finishing: The work is completed in-store, followed by cleaning, polishing, and inspection.
  5. Pick up and review: We show you the completed work and answer care questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does jewelry repair take?

Timing depends on the condition of the piece, the type of repair, and any parts or stones required. Many common repairs can be completed quickly, and some are ready the next day. We provide an estimate after inspecting your jewelry.

Does my jewelry leave the store?

No. Jewelry repairs are completed in-store at our Dearborn location.

Can you replace a missing diamond or gemstone?

In many cases, yes. We inspect the setting, help identify an appropriate replacement stone, and explain any prong or mounting work needed to secure it.

Can every ring be resized?

Not every ring can be resized safely. The answer depends on the metal, construction, stone placement, and size change. Bring the ring in so we can evaluate it.

Do you repair watches?

No. Our repair service focuses on jewelry rather than watch repair.
