1. Gather your ideas
Start with the details that matter most: center-stone shape, metal color, overall style, and any meaningful symbols or design elements. Ideas from several rings can often be combined when the finished design remains structurally sound.
2. Set a budget and priorities
A clear budget helps guide decisions about the center diamond, accent stones, metal, and complexity of the setting. Decide which features are essential and where you are comfortable making adjustments.
3. Choose the center stone
Compare diamond shapes, proportions, and grading information in person. Learn how the 4Cs affect appearance and review the role of diamond certification before making a decision.
4. Develop the design
The design may begin with a sketch and then move into a computer-aided model. This is where details such as a halo, hidden halo, split shank, diamond bridge, side stones, twists, or a matching wedding band are refined.
5. Review and approve
Review the proportions, stone placement, profile, setting security, and wedding-band fit before manufacturing begins. Ask questions and request reasonable adjustments while the design is still being finalized.
6. Create and finish the ring
After approval, the ring is made, set, polished, and inspected. Many custom rings can be completed in about 10 to 14 days after design approval, although timing depends on the design, materials, stone availability, and current workload. Confirm the expected schedule before starting.
